Feb 9 - This is our friend from the Desert Museum, south of Tucson. We visited him as part of a long visit to this park, which is one of the best anywhere. Wonderful place, full of interesting creatures and desert vegetation. There's an aviary, a hummingbird enclosure, and very good desert animal areas. It was a great time. Filled my camera's memory card.

We then drove along highway 85, a generally very nice little two-laner, through the Tohono O'Odham Indian Reservation, and on to a little town called Ajo (Ah-ho). Thought we'd stay for one night, but after we took a look around and learned more, we decided to stay for 4 nights. Perfect weather, small town, middle of the Sonoran desert, and a very nice r.v. park. Tomorrow night the Tucson Symphony will be here for a concert called "Fiddle Faddle", so we bought tickets yesterday. We'll wander about, do a little hiking in the hills, check out the old silver mine that had 7,000 people living here until the mid-80s. Now it's a slowly recovering tourist town, quiet, nice place to spend a  few days before we head to Yuma and California. Stay tuned.

  1. Great stories from the sunny south! I am really enjoying your 'rambles' through the US south west. Hope you were able to get your bike tire repaired! Safe journey! Cheers... Jim C.

  2. We've been without our old computer for over a week, so had to buy a new one. And now we can't seem to find a way to get back on track with the blog. Still searching for answers. Meantime, we're in Yuma, Arizona, now our fifth day, and tomorrow will venture into California. We will go to Joshua Tree National Park, stay around the area for three days, then go to Palm Springs to visit friends there.
After that, probably back down to San Diego, to do a day at one of the best zoos in the world, and then on up the coast, hoping to do the whole thing on route one. We've had great weather here, mostly mid 80s, so we've been very lucky.
We'll try to get the blog going again. Meantime, maybe this is a way to keep in touch with some of you.

  3. further info for today. We are now in the city of Twenty Nine Palms, on the north side of Joshua Tree National Park. We have a campsite in the park tomorrow night, and will do some hiking for at least the next two days Had an interesting drive through the desert today, and more good stuff coming.

Last night we camped on the Colorado River, in a very nice spot, right on the river. The river is a great analogy of life, drifting along steadily, with some peaceful spots, and other more boisterous runs. Made me think a little as I watched the sun rise this morning.
